Vertiv (VRT) Shares Soar as Its Orders More Than Double
Vertiv soared 16.5% on Wednesday, its best day since February, after its organic orders more than doubled and it raised its 2026 sales forecast by $650 million.

What happened
Shares of Vertiv (VRT), which makes the power and cooling equipment inside data centers, soared 16.5% on Wednesday after its third-quarter orders more than doubled and it raised its forecasts for the year.
Net sales rose 61% from a year earlier to $4.31 billion, or 55% excluding acquisitions and currency moves, the company said in its results release before the open. Organic orders grew more than 100%. Adjusted earnings came to $2.21 a share, up 78% and ahead of the $1.82 analysts expected, according to S&P consensus figures cited by StockStory on Yahoo Finance.
Vertiv now expects 2026 net sales of $14.45 billion to $14.85 billion, $650 million more at the midpoint than its previous forecast. It lifted its adjusted earnings forecast to $7.10 to $7.20 a share, 45 cents more at the midpoint, according to the release and the call transcript published by Investing.com.
The shares closed at $242.94, up 16.5% from the previous close.
Why it matters
“We are in the middle of the largest infrastructure buildout and it’s accelerating,” Chief Executive Giordano Albertazzi said in the release. The adjusted operating margin rose 2.9 percentage points to 25.2%, which means the extra sales are also more profitable.
Orders are the number that tells investors what next year looks like. Albertazzi said on the call that customers still place orders about “12, 18 months” ahead, so a doubling now points to busy factories well into 2027.
The stock had lost more than a third of its value since its May peak. On the call, Executive Chairman Dave Cote borrowed from Mark Twain: “the rumors of our demise have been greatly exaggerated.”
What the market is telling us
Vertiv’s shares moved 5% or more on 46 of the last 252 sessions. The last move at least this big in the same direction was on 11 February 2026, when the stock rose 24.5%. The stock is up 50.0% this year, and at $242.94 it sits 35.4% below its 52-week closing high of $376.23 from 14 May 2026. $1,000 invested in Vertiv five years ago would be worth $9,453 today.
We read the orders as the important number: they say the demand behind the stock is still growing, even though the shares are still more than a third below their May peak.
